Reflections: Luke 8:22-25

As you read through this weeks passage, we invite you to be fully present not only to what this experience may have been for the disciples but also for what the circumstances might bring up out of your own life's experiences, past or present. Imagine yourself in the story, who are you? Where are you? What do you feel? What is your response to Jesus? Allow God to speak to you through The Word and through the Holy Spirit. After you have taken some time with the story, reflect on what you noticed or sit in the questions that follow.

Luke 8:22-25

One day Jesus said to his disciples, "Let's cross over to the other side of the lake." So they got into a boat and started out. On the way across, Jesus lay down for a nap, and while he was sleeping the wind began to rise. A fierce storm developed that threatened to swamp them, and they were in real danger. The disciples woke him up, shouting, "Master, Master, we're going to drown!" So Jesus rebuked the wind and the raging waves. The storm stopped and all was calm! Then he asked them, "Where is your faith?" And they were filled with awe and amazement. They said to one another, "Who is this man, that even the winds and waves obey him?"

• What did you hear as you read the passage? A word?
• What might you give power to in your life that is bigger than what you believe God can overcome?
• In what or whom do you place your faith when you are afraid? What might you be attached to that you believe keeps you safe?
• Have you taken in messages about God that suggest that God might not be a safe person?
• What does safe look like? Is it a life without risk?
